These Apple Pecan Chewies are a delicious fall twist on blondies with apples, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Easy to make, full of caramel flavor, and perfectly chewy!

When the meteorologists down here in the South forecast the highs to be in the 80s, it’s practically fall or at least I like to think so. And, if there is anything I correlate with cooler temps it’s fall baking. I love fall-flavored treats. Sometimes I don’t even wait for the temps to drop. I just go ahead and start baking in a desperate attempt to usher in some heat relief. It hasn’t worked yet, but I’m holding out hope.
These Apple Pecan Chewies are one of those fall treats I have to bake up every fall. It is a delicious take on my classic Pecan Chewies. They’re like the easiest, most delicious blondies you’ve ever had – tons of caramel flavor and the perfect chewy texture. And, these Apple Pecan Chewies are just like those Pecan Chewies but with the obvious apple twist and added warm flavors of fall – cinnamon and nutmeg. I sure hope you enjoy them as much as I do!

Should I use a metal or glass baking dish for this recipe?
After much testing, I prefer to use a metal baking pan with these Apple Pecan Chewies instead of a glass baking dish. Adding apples to the recipe also adds a considerable amount of moisture. When I made this in a glass baking dish, the result was sort of soggy.
Since metal is a better conductor of heat, the chewies brown faster and hold together better since the edges are cooked a little firmer. It’s not guaranteed, but it’s a little bit of an insurance policy in my opinion.

What type of apple is best for this Apple Pecan Chewies recipe?
When choosing apples for your Apple Pecan Chewies recipe, it’s all about selecting apples with firm flesh to hold up during baking. There’s the classic Granny Smith that’s always great for baking, but I also love Fuji, Jazz, and Honeycrisp.
What makes these apples ideal is that they are lower in water content compared to softer varieties like Red Delicious or McIntosh. Firmer apples like Granny Smith and Fuji not only retain their texture but also donโt release as much moisture during baking. This helps the chewies maintain their ideal consistency without becoming too soggy.

How to Store Apple Pecan Chewies:
To store Apple Pecan Chewies properly, itโs important to know how to maintain their fresh, chewy texture. These treats are fine left on the counter for about a day, but after that, I suggest you put them in the fridge in an airtight container to prevent them from drying out. They should be good in the fridge for about 5 days.
For longer storage, these also freeze well! Just wrap them airtight in plastic wrap or foil and place them in a freezer bag for up to 3 months. Thaw at room temperature when youโre ready to enjoy them again!

Would grating the apple make a difference in texture? Would that work? (trying to ‘hide’ the apple) Thanks! ๐
I think it could work. I’d grate it and drain it really well.

I make these often, and everyone loves them! So very tasty! I have made them; frozen them, thawed, and served. Equally good after freezing as they are fresh made. Typically, I use a Honey Crisp apple, peel and all!!
Thanks for the tips, Cheri!

How do you think these would turn out with half the sugar?
I’m not sure, I haven’t tested it that way?

I made these over the weekend and they were oh so flavorful, but the were crumbly and were a bit underbaked in the middle. I even baked for 10 or 15 extra minutes. Any suggestions?
The chewies will always feel a little underbaked – that’s how they stay chewy. That said, the water content from the particular variety of apple you used could certainly have some effect. Do you remember what kind you use?

How should these be stored? Thank you!
They’re fine on the counter for a day or so, but will be refrigerated if not eaten within that time.

Can these be frozen once baked?
I don’t see why not. ๐

i was wondering , do you think i can use the homemade apple sauce i made in place of the apple?
I’m worried the applesauce might make these too dense and heavy.

Love your recipes. Most put me walking an extra 2 miles a day!! Wondered if you thought I could use Bisquick instead of self rising flour
Ha! Unfortunately, in this case, Bisquick won’t work as a replacement for the flour.

By far one of the best apple recipes Iโve tried! I made a pan for dessert and it was demolished by my family the same night except for the piece I wrapped up for myself to have for breakfast lol!! Very rich with the butter but most definitely worth it. My daughter already wants me to make it again. Will probably be made a couple times a month. Thank you for sharing this great recipe!
Wonderful! I’m so glad everyone enjoyed them and you got to look like a rock star!

Wow! I’ll have to try these soon! It has been the same temps here and very humid. At the grocery stores I have seen “pumpkin spice” this and that, but I just can’t get in the fall mood yet because of the weather. Maybe these will put me in the fall mood! Hopefully it will cool off soon!
Thanks, Emily! Hope y’all see some relief soon!

Stacey,
I absolutely LOVE your Pecan Chewies and I know I’ll love these as well I’m going to bake these as soon as this unbearable heat in Texas lets up. I may even try to bake them in my Air Fryer Oven as I will not have to fire up my oven and heat up the kitchen using it. Thank you for sharing another of your wonderful recipes.

I’m so glad you love them, Claudine! I always feel like they’re overlooked. Let me know how the air fryer works!
