How to Tie a Bread Knot

Tying a bread knot doesn’t have to be overly complicated. Simply follow these easy steps, and you will have yourself a lovely-tied bread knot to serve up to your family or guests.

Let’s start with our can of biscuit dough. I like to use the Grands Original Flaky Layers Biscuits, but other similar-sized cans of dough will work. Separate the biscuits, take each one, and roll it into a snake-like strip. You’ll want these to be 10 to 12 inches long so they’re long enough to tie.

Rolling out the dough

Next, just tie the dough into a knot. This can take a little finesse, but a few tries and you’re sure to be a pro. If it tears, simply smoosh it all together again and roll it back out. Easy peasy.

Next, take the two loose ends and pinch them together. Then tuck them under the roll.

Pinching the dough together

That’s it. See how easy that was? I’m telling you, folks are going to be seriously impressed with these. Then all you have to do is take your combined ingredients – melted butter, garlic powder, parmesan cheese, some all-purpose Italian seasoning, and a little salt – and spoon the butter mixture over the knot or brush it on the knots. Finally, you bake them to golden perfection.

Just look at these babies…They’re so quick and easy but look and taste like so much more. The folks at your table will have no idea they aren’t homemade and certainly won’t ever guess they started with canned biscuit dough.

You could even whip up a side of my marinara sauce, and these are great for dipping.

Ingredients

  • 1 (16.3-ounce) can refrigerated flaky biscuits (I used the Pillsbury Grands Original Flaky Layers – 8 in a tube)
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder (or 1 clove garlic, minced)
  • 3 tablespoons grated Parmesan
  • ½ teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • ¼ teaspoon salt

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F and lightly spray a baking sheet with nonstick cooking spray.
Pop open your biscuits and separate them. Stretch and roll each biscuit in your hands until you have a snake of dough about 10 to 12 inches long.
  • Tie each piece in a knot and then pinch the two tails together at the bottom. Place on the prepared baking sheet.
  • In a small bowl, combine the butter, garlic powder, Parmesan, Italian seasoning, and salt. Mix well. Spoon the mixture evenly over each of the knots. Bake for about 15 minutes or until golden brown.

  1. Stacey…I love the way you articulate your recipes. I’m a Bama girl (now in texas) so it’s good to relate! I have cooked so many of your recipes and enjoyed every single one! Keep up the good work…your comments give me a good laugh every day!

I’ve made these since being a teenager! A few things I do is to roll the rope in melted butter then roll in the Parmesan mixed with the garlic powder. That way the garlic butter is tasted throughout the roll.

  3. Hi Stacey! I made these Garlic Parmesan Knots the other day and they were great! So fast and easy, and a definite hit that I’ll be making again. Thanks!
