I’m a little embarrassed to admit this. But if an effort of full disclosure, I have to say that I know what dog treats taste like. Well, at least this kind. So here’s the deal… The other night, it was about 10:30 and Heather was in the living room working on some school stuff. I had decided to go ahead and hit the sack and in my usual routine, I locked up the house, set the alarm and grabbed two dog treats for our fur babies Sadie and Bailey. Have y’all met my dogs? They’re hip and joint formula treats and they each get two a day. Well, walking by Heather in the chair, I noticed she had a bag of Nilla wafers sitting on the arm. Well, I reached in and grabbed a couple to snack on. (Y’all can see this coming, right?) I get distracted and ask Heather a question and continue to snack on my Nilla wafers. We’re chatting and before I know it, I’ve popped one of the dog treats in my mouth and chomped down. Luckily, the treat didn’t have a whole lot of favor because I can’t imagine dog treat and Nilla wafers would be complementary flavors. I spit it out right after the first bite, thank goodness. And apparently there have been no side effects, although, now that I think about it, my knees sure haven’t been popping lately. Hmmm.
Here’s are my two mutts, Sadie and Bailey. Aren’t they cute? Sadie is a chihuahua mix and Bailey is a shih-tzu.
Y’all this recipe is easy and really tasty! It’s a great quick side dish to any meal and works great for a potluck.

This looks very yummy! Any idea how I could make this for a church lunch? I’ll need to take it in the morning around 9 am and then we’ll eat around noon.
Thanks!
Stacey
Is there any chance to pop it into a microwave right before serving?

This post made me laugh out loud! I make dog cookies for my dogs, so I know what is and isn’t in them. They are basically a dry granola bar – human friendly. The looks I have gotten over the years from my kid’s friends when I eat them (I use a dog bone cookie cutter) are priceless!
Stacey
That’s hilarious! I totally need to remember that when my boy is a teenager with friends over!!

Love the post and something new to do with corn! The story was delightful… my children have tasted/eaten dog biscuits — for treats! Their Granny gave them to my children to snack on. So when they came home telling me they ate dog biscuits I wasn’t sure whether to be upset or what and of course that was after a good laugh. Cute fur-babies you have!
Stacey
LOL! That’s hilarious! Thanks, Marisa!

If you want to add a little kick just add a few drops of jalapeno juice before you cook it. I have been making this for years. Delicious!
Christie
That sounds perfect. I love anything spicy.

Awww…. your dogs are just adorable! I want one so bad, but my apartment building just won’t let me. So I get my puppy fix by going to see my in-laws.
And goodness, that corn looks good! I wonder if that would work with low-fat cream cheese? Trying to watch the calories, but I might have a cheat meal coming up pretty soon… 🙂
Stacey
Aww, thanks!! I can’t guarantee the results with the low-fat cream cheese, but It’s worth a try. The only thing that would be off would be the texture. If you give it a try, come back and let me know.
