This Ooey Gooey Spice Cake combines the flavors of fall with the classic gooey butter cake!

Y’all know I’m all about quick, easy, no fuss cooking.  So it frustrates me to see folks making things way more complicated than they have to be.  I saw a post last week where someone was talking about how you can spread peanut butter between two sheets of plastic wrap and then freeze it and cut it into squares to make making peanut butter and jelly sandwiches easier.  Well, as far as I’m concerned, that’s just too much sugar for a dime.  (Have y’all ever heard that expression?)

The same goes for creating recipes.  Often times we try to come up with something new and different and get things all complicated, when something tried and true with a new spin is all we need.

This Ooey Gooey Spice Cake combines the flavors of fall with the classic gooey butter cake!

This Ooey Gooey Autumn Spice Cake is the perfect example.  There’s absolutely nothing new or groundbreaking about it.  It’s a standard Ooey Gooey Butter Cake recipe made with a spice cake mix rather than yellow or butter cake mix.  But you know what it is??  It’s absolutely delicious!  Like seriously delicious.  Like “I’m gonna eat three pieces,” delicious.  And yes, I did eat three pieces.  And no, I didn’t go to the gym afterwards.  And I’m ok with that.

If you love the ooey gooey-ness of classic recipe and the warm spicy flavors of fall, chances are you’re going to love this.  Y’all enjoy!

Have made this several times but this weekend I made it using a creamy almond cake mix and put almond extract in the cream cheese. It tasted like a gooey wedding cake. Favorite one yet! Thank you for this versatile recipe.

    1. Tracey, you just blew my mind. I’m a HUGE fan of almond but never thought about it in this case. It’s on my to-do list for sure!

I made these according to the directions and pressed toasted pecans into the red velvet layer then poured on the cream cheese filling and baked according to the directions. They were delish!

  4. How long do they stay fresh? Thinking of maki g them for Christmas but would like to make them a few days before.

  5. This is seriously good! My top was browned a bit after 50 minutes…maybe my oven runs hot. I thought it was ruined till I tasted a piece. It was still fantastic. I really think this would be hard to screw up so badly that it would be inedible! I’m anxious to try the red cake recipe. Thank you .

  7. I have made this recipe for years using a lemon cake mix but the red velvet and spice recipes are making my taste buds go crazy right now. Can’t wait to try them.

  8. Hi Stacey,
This looks like a great version of a classic and I would love to try it!
Do you think I could freeze individually wrapped slices?

  9. Made the Red Velvet and it was good! Made it for company and it was gone before I could get that third piece. I know the spice cake will be just as good. Thank you!

  10. I absolutely love the Ooey Gooey Butter Cake, but this one, oh my! I’m making a special trip back to the store to buy a spice cake mix so I can make this ASAP! My taste buds are screaming for this. I’m gonna have to put a muzzle on my mouth to keep me from eating the whole thing! LOL!
Thanks Stacey for sharing this recipe.
