Top Reasons to Try HelloFresh

I was not financially compensated for this post but HelloFresh did send me a free box in exchange for my thoughts. All opinions contained in this post are my own.

A few weeks ago, the folks with HelloFresh reached out and offered me the opportunity to try their meal kit delivery service.  I’ve tried several different meal delivery services as of late, each with their own merits and faults, so I decided to try HelloFresh as well.  We really enjoyed it.  And honestly, I think you might enjoy it, too.

If you’ve been curious, I hope this post will encourage you to take the leap! With leaping in mind, let’s just dive right into the top reasons I think you should give HelloFresh a try:

For us, the main factor for using a subscription service like HelloFresh is convenience.  With school pickup, homework, soccer practice, etc., evenings can be a bit hectic at our house.  It’s nice to come home and pull one of the meal boxes right out of the fridge and know everything I need is right there.

Now let’s be honest, I love to cook.  I cook 6 to 7 days a week.  But sometimes, I just need easy.  HelloFresh comes with all the ingredients in a cooler box packed with ice right to your door.  All you have to do is open up the box and place the labeled boxes for each recipe and the meat (packaged separately) in the fridge.

You simply grab your recipe card, the labeled box for that recipe, and your meat and get to work.  The recipes are healthy, easy to prepare, and super tasty.

One of the things that I think HelloFresh does incredibly well is offer flexibility on a host of different levels.  To start, you can choose meals to feed 2 or 4 people.  Since there’s 3 of us, I went with the 4 person meals and we typically had enough leftover for my lunch the next day.  Once thing worth mentioning is that the recipe instructions are written for the 2 person meals, so keep in mind you’ll need to double everything if you order the 4 person meals.

In addition to that, HelloFresh offers 3 different recipe types.  You can choose from the classic plan, the family plan, or the all veggie plan.  The classic plan offers the most variety in recipes while the family plan features more family-friendly recipes that even the kids will eat.  The veggie plan is obviously for those focusing on a vegetarian diet.

You also have the option to choose how many meals you want per week.  You can choose between 2 and 5 meals.

Each week, they offer up 13 options for your meals.  You can go in the week before and choose which recipes you want.  This was super helpful for us, because we do have a few picky eaters in our family – but I’m not naming names.  🙂

You also have the flexibility to pause or skip weeks, which was a huge bonus.

Every meal we’ve tried from HelloFresh we’ve really enjoyed.  From the Buttered-Up Steak to the Lobster Ravioli and Shrimp to the Teriyaki Pork Bowl to the Thyme and Honey Pork Chops (pictured here), we always cleaned our plates.

One of the biggest problems when it comes to meal time at our house is deciding what to eat.  With HelloFresh, you decide the week before and have a variety of options just sitting in your fridge when you get home.  It makes deciding on supper much easier and less stressful.  We also tend to get in a rut with the same ol’ recipes and this helps break that up and inject something new and different into our meal plan.

Overall, we were super pleased with HelloFresh.  We ended up trying 3 boxes to make the review more balanced.  We did have one little hiccup when some produce wasn’t at its freshest – how can anything survive on the porch in this Alabama heat? – but Hello Fresh was quick to offer us a generous credit toward our next box.  We will absolutely continue to use HelloFresh for those busy weeks when there’s little time to make a meal plan and do the grocery shopping.

  1. I would like to try it frist before I order it I do not want to be committed to anything does your company send samples or it says 3 free meals thank you ofelia

    • Hi Ofelia! I simply offered my experience with HelloFresh. That’s my only affiliation. They are offering 3 free meals when you sign up using the link at the bottom of the post.

  2. Monica Solomon says:

The above review is great, but I have to wonder if Hello Fresh was more willing to compensate the reviewer because she was going to be reviewing. I tried Hello Fresh and my experience was a bit different. The first box or two were fresh, tasty enough, but the next two boxes were bad. The produce was either on the verge of going bad, or rotted to the point of being just squishy, almost unrecognizable. I didn’t call immediately, my bad I know, but I was offered no compensation at all for the meals (2 or 3) that I had to throw away as soon as they came to my door. I discontinued my subscription and would never recommend them. Besides all that, they were way too expensive to keep on a weekly or even biweekly basis.

    • Hi Monica! I hate to hear that. Just so you know, Hello Fresh didn’t compensate me for the review. As mentioned in the post, I got a similar box with a few spoiled vegetables and they compensated me for them. If you have a problem, you need to make sure to address it with them immediately.

  3. But you still have to cook the food that’s not really relieving your burden of having to cook every nite. It only relieves having to go to the market

  4. Hello, I used Hello Fresh a few times, love the idea of having everything ready to cook, my husband did not like all the many seasonings and herbs, he was not very happy and it was alittle spendy for us.

  5. Mickey Matta says:

Have not tried this product but experienced Plated and Blue Apron I think it is called. From the comment section it seems this one is pretty much the same, terribly overpriced. Maybe advise your readers to just go to Trader Joe’s, get super quality products and not get suckered in to paying through the nose. If you are too busy to shop once a week, or condone your readers for thinking they are too busy, change your foolish lifestyle.

    • Not everyone has a Trader Joe’s nearby. We don’t have one within 100 miles. That said, what you’re paying for is convenience and I think that’s worth it to many folks. And just for the record, my lifestyle is busy… but not foolish. Have a great day!

  6. I haven’t tried Hello Fresh but I have tried Blue Apron. I loved the convenience of knowing we had all the ingredients we needed and it’s only common sense to understand that you’re paying for the convenience of having perfectly portioned ingredients at your fingertips as well as the exact recipe. You don’t have to buy larger amounts than you will use and end up throwing it away…. Not everyone has a TJ’s near them and not everyone finds it foolish to subscribe to this type of service. It allows us to try foods and recipes that are outside of the normal Meatloaf Monday, Taco Tuesday, etc., etc. Let’s face it, the grocery lists we make are typically for the things we run out of when making a meal so the next time we shop we’re buying the ingredients to repeat that meal again. Now THAT’S foolish!
