Last week I got to spend three days with three of my favorite people enjoying the towns of Pine Mountain and Warm Springs, Georgia and seeing the amazing light displays at Callaway Gardens. It really gets me in the holiday spirit to see all those lights! We found a great cabin community with a quaint, but well-appointed cabin on Pine Mountain. It was a GREAT opportunity to get away from it all and spend a little time relaxing without having to drive 6 hours. While there we HAD to eat so at the recommendation of the staff at Mountain Top Inn, we ventured down the mountain to Aspen’s Mountain Grill. Boy were we impressed! Between the 3 adults we had the Seared Shrimp and White Cheddar Grits, the Smothered Chicken, and the Grilled Hamburger Steak. The shrimp and grits were fabulous; with tender juicy shrimp and a great cajun inspired sauce that had capers of all things. The hamburger steak was great as well. But the smothered chicken was certainly the star dish of the meal. One would expect the standard grilled piece of chicken smothered with cheese, but this was far more. Topped with onions, mushrooms, bacon, cheese and an amazing mustard sauce, it was nothing short of wonderful! One of the sides ordered was the Fried Green Beans… awesome! Crispy, tasty, happiness with yummy ranch dressing. And a note on the ranch dressing… it’s homemade, like all of their dressings, and was some of the best I’ve had. I probably could have eaten with a spoon!
If you’re headed to Callaway Gardens anytime soon, be sure to check out this little gem. I think you’ll find it not only convenient, but quite tasty considering the other options in town. Entree prices range from $6.95 for an angus burger to $16.95 for the Grilled Trout with browned butter sauce. They are open for lunch and dinner Tuesday through Thursday during the regular season, but are open on Monday for dinner as well during the holiday season.
While in town, also be sure to check out the Mediterranean Quesadilla at The 27th Grill also!
