Get out the syrup, butter, and jelly – it’s time for the International Biscuit Festival! Knoxville, Tennessee, is home to the International Biscuit Festival on May 27th and 28th and this event is sure to get your mouth watering and your biscuits buttered!
Two days of food and fun kick off on Friday with the Biscuit Art Exhibition Opening, Biscuit Blast Off Opening Reception and the Biscuit Benefit Fundraiser. The Biscuit Benefit Fundraiser is one of the premier events of the Festival. It serves to raise money for Share Our Strength and Second Harvest, two nonprofit organizations working together to eliminate childhood hunger. This year’s fundraiser will feature Guest Chef Michelle Bernstein.
Saturday is also jam packed with delicious things to do starting with the Biscuit Breakfast at 9am and the Blackberry Farm Biscuit Brunch at 11am. The Blackberry Farm Biscuit Brunch offers delicious foods of the region in a beautiful outdoor setting. Saturday also features the Biscuit Bazaar Vendor Area, Biscuit Boulevard Tasting Area where a ticket allows you to sample the biscuit offerings of over twenty of the region’s finest bakers, The Biscuit Bake Off – biscuit makers compete for cash and prizes in four categories (traditional biscuits, dessert biscuits, most creative biscuit and kids’ biscuits). And being an Elvis fan I have to mention the 2010 Grand Champion – the “Fat Elvis Biscuit” a biscuit delight concocted of peanut butter, banana and bacon!
Other fun events are the Miss and Mr. Biscuit Pageant (where talent, poise, and biscuit making skills are necessary!) and Biscuit Arts and Entertainment featuring Folk art, Americana music, biscuit song writing competitions and biscuit books!
Tickets for these events are going quickly so head over to biscuitfest.com to get yours – and don’t forget to check out the “Biscuit Bundles” which offer patrons the chance to get tickets to multiple events for one low price.
