BBQ, barbecue, barbeque – Hope you’re hungry cause we have some great barbecue festivals to tell you about.
Ready for some BBQ? Well the Levee Fest in Macon, Georgia, is certainly the place to go October 1st to fill that order. And it doesn’t matter if you like to cook or if you like to eat – this fest has something for you! They have a professional BBQ Competition and a Backyard Competition (for those not yet “professional”) and for those of us just know good barbeque then sign up to be a judge! Delicious barbecuing isn’t the only competing going on – you can join in the Corn Hole Competition, Seed Spitting Contest, Pumpkin Pie Eating Contest or even a BBQ Sandwich Eating Contest. So load up the whole family and come to Macon and come hungry! Be sure to visit www.leveefest.com for all times and details. And a big thanks to Southern Bite Reader DeeAnn for letting us know about this great event!
Still hungry for barbecue? I thought you would be so check out the 28th Annual Barbecue Festival in Lexington, North Carolina on October 22nd. Lexington takes their barbecue seriously having declared the month of October as “Barbecue” month. Along with barbecue you can find over four hundred exhibitors, five stages of entertainment, car show, bike stunts, racing pigs and they don’t leave out the little ones – your kids can have a ball in Piglet Land! Be sure to check out the 12th Annual Sand Sculpture – pig themed of course! Admission is free and the barbecue is legendary – www.barbecuefestival.com.
North Carolina will be celebrating barbecue again on November 4th and 5th in Shelby, North Carolina at Hog Happnin’. And let me tell you there will be a lot happening here so don’t miss the car show, arts and crafts and make sure you get involved with the Corn Hole Tournament, Karaoke or a ride on the mechanical bull! Got kids – well be sure to check out Chaz the Magician and have a spin on the many amusement park rides. And all that fun works up an appetite and Hog Happnin’ will have plenty of food to fill your belly – BBQ meals, BBQ sandwiches, hot dots, ice cream, chips and plenty of other great concessions. They will also have BBQ by the pound available to purchase and take home. But the main event has to be Taster’s Choice where you can sample BBQ meat from the competing BBQ teams – over eight teams are expected! So you can have your fill of poultry, pork ribs, BBQ pork, and beef brisket. Head to Shelby for a Hog Happnin’ good time and head to http://hoghappnin.com for prices and ticket information.
Hope you have enjoyed our little visit to barbecue heaven. Do you think you’ve got a winning barbecue recipe? Well look into competing at one of these fine festivals – you could win some great prizes and at the very least you’ll be sure to have a good time.
