Some of my most favorite recipes are simple ones.  I like things that are clean and uncomplicated.  One of my most favorite things is hot cake right out of the oven, without frosting or anything.  I always hope that my cakes rise a bit too high so I can shave off the top and get a taste while it’s warm.  I guess that’s why I’m a big sausage ball fan.  They have always been high on the list of party foods at our house, especially during the holidays.  The simple ingredients and prep make them easy to put together and easy to clean up after.   Even Jack loves sausage balls; chances are your kid will love them too.  This recipe is pretty versatile also.  You can use spicy sausage to give them a kick or stir in some garlic powder and your favorite spices to mix it up a little.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground sausage
  • 3 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 2 cups baking mix (i.e., Bisquick)
  • 3 tablespoons water

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.  In a large bowl, combine sausage, cheese, and baking mix.  It’s best to use your hands here.  Then add the water gradually until it gets to the right consistency to roll into balls.
  2. Next, roll into balls about an inch to inch and a quarter in size and place on an ungreased baking sheet.  Although, I prefer to cook mine on a Silpat mat or parchment paper.  (Have I told y’all how much I love my Silpat mats?)
  3. Bake 10 to 12 minutes.
