February 27th is National Strawberry Day and in honor of this red fruit here are two great family friendly festivals celebrating community, farmers and of course the strawberries they grow.

The Florida Strawberry Festival takes place in Plant City, Florida, from March 3rd through March 13th.  This festival got its beginning back in 1930 and with the exception of six years during and following World War II it has been going strong ever since.  This festival is ranked in the Top 50 Fairs in North America and is also named among the Southeast Tourism Society’s Top 20 Events.  If you are headed to Plant City you will not be disappointed with all the fun to participate in such as the Superdog Corndog Eating Contest, Strawberry Stemming Contest, Strawberry Shortcake Eating Contest, tons of rides for all ages and musical entertainment which includes performances by Kenny Rogers, Trace Adkins, The Judds, Rick Springfield, George Jones and Lady Antebellum – just to name a few!  For a complete event list, directions and prices go to www.flstrawberryfestival.com.

The 40th Annual Ponchatoula Strawberry Festival will be held in Ponchatoula, Louisiana, on April 8th, 9th and 10th.  Along with the promotion of strawberry farmers and the industry, this particular festival gives non-profit organizations from around the State of Louisiana the chance to raise money for their programs by selling delicious Southern food.  Ponchatoula is certainly a town to visit as this “great city is all about family, fun, food, entertainment and downright Southern Hospitality!”  Come for the strawberries and stay for the large variety of music, Southern delicacies, petting zoo, kids games and rides.  More information can be found at www.lastrawberyfestival.com
