Let me just tell you that my excitement about summer vacation is always compounded by the fact that I get to check out restaurants that aren’t in my regular dossier. And though I do delight in trying different and new spots… I always have to squeeze in some of my tried and true favorites. One of those is, without question, The Shrimp Basket in Gulf Shores. When you’re anywhere close to the beach, it’s a culinary crime to not check out the local seafood joints and Gulf Shores has their fair share. But having been to many of them, The Shrimp Basket ranks on top for me in the fried, fried, and fried category.
Every time I go I say I’m going to try something different and every time I end up with the Fried Trio Basket with shrimp, crab claws, and oysters. I just can’t resist! The breading they use fries up to crispy perfection and greatly compliments the delicate flavor of the seafood. You’ll also find a different breading on different types of seafood. For example, the oysters are fried with more of a cornmeal base which is amazing! I’m also a big fan of their new potatoes and their shrimp slaw. Imagine a wonderful creamy coleslaw mixed with the most perfectly cooked salad shrimp and you’ve got their shrimp slaw. Even if you’re turning your nose up to it now, just wait till you taste it. You might also be interested in their Fried Pickle Chips… YUM! Be sure not to pass up their homemade tarter and cocktail sauces, too!
They have other localations throughout south Alabama and the Florida panhandle, but I can only vouch for the locations in Gulf Shores and Foley. I’m sure the others are fantastic too! Be sure to check out their website for their menu and locations. www.shrimpbasket.com
